SOUTH STAFFORDSHIRE HOUSING ASSOCIATION
PRESS RELEASE
========================================
Major grants for rented housing
Nearly £1.5 million of grants have been given to South
Staffordshire Housing Association for the purchase and building of rented
housing in Bilbrook, Codsall, Wombourne, Penkridge and Kinver.
The grants have been made by the government backed Housing
Corporation in partnership with South Staffordshire Council.
Just under £900,000 will be used to buy back council and
housing association houses previously purchased by the tenants. The properties will be refurbished and
rented to people on the association’s and local council’s waiting lists.
“These grants will
help tackle the clear lack of affordable rented housing. They will help local people to find homes
and not be forced to move away.” said Rob Bird, business development
manager “We are delighted that once
again we have been chosen to combat local housing problems by returning former
council properties to the rented sector and providing new rented houses.”
This grant is one of a number received by the association,
which is the largest local provider of affordable housing in South
Staffordshire.
